Friends,

Kyoto boom’s fiirst show out of town in Fayetteville was a complete success. We did Little Rock right. Cocktails at the Carnall hall followed by pedal to the metal boomage at Froggy’s (next to Jose’s). The noise nazis are back in Fayetteville, so all outdoor shows are limited to a certian volume, but that didn’t stop us from laying down a blistering set opening for Hunkr Down. After our performance, we had our traditional Teqila shots, then we proceeded to get a little drunky-drunk. Towards the end of the Hunkr Down show, Kyoto was called back up to fumble out way through a ramshacle version of “Don’t Bring Me Down.” It was a fabulous mess and a total blast. I can’t wait to do it all again.

Look for an article about us and our families in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette in Monday’s paper.

Wow. You guys really know how to put on an incredible show. And the “after-party” / “dance-off” was like something straight out of an Usher video….did I really “drop it like it’s hot” to 50 Cent? Um, yeah, I did.
It was the most fun I’ve had in a long while. Thanks again for the shout-out. I totally geeked out, even more so than usual. So…when is Kyoto Boom gonna put out an album?! I’m pre-ordering that shit, duh.

Give it up for a few people making big noises. As anyone who followed the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase earlier this year knows, Kyoto Boom kicks out new-wavy jams befitting arena stages. Drummer Duke Boyne and guitarist Dave Raymond are extremely adept and precise at what they do, but the bigness comes, most of all, courtesy of Scott Cook, who plays keyboard and bass and sings full-throated with a voice that’s more real-deal rock ‘n’ roll than anyone in town. Opening the show, which Boyne curated, is one-man band Nathan Brown, AKA Browningham. Known to local concertgoers as a crooner in the Michael McDonald mold, Brown comes to Sticky Fingerz armed with new material that he’s performing with a guitar with keyboard, bass and drum loops backing him. After Kyoto Boom plays, DJ Rod Bryan spins a specific mix — Ghanaian funk, political punk and American Southern soul ex-pats.
